Have you thought about usiing one of the chassis mounted carriers, I got one from Twosure. It keeps the weight of the wheel more central and frees up room in the wet box.
Do not drill any holes through the bulkhead inside the Gas cabinet. I seem to remember a thread on here some time ago, saying that it is illegal unless part of the original design as regulations require certain things be done. I am sure somebody will come along and claer this up.

Always thought they were a silly idea, How do you slide them out when you are on a busy road or near a kerb?
If they made them slide out of the rear then that would be so much better, except the weight added to the rear of course.
Re. drilling the bulkhead wall, Maybe correct but i wouldnt want to do that anyway.
Thats why i cannot see howto fit one of those trailer brackets that rabb_uk posted.
I need something that can be screwed to the wall with a central bolt/disc to hold the wheel. Most cars have them these days, anyone know if the central piece can be removed? I think an old austin metro had a disc that could be removed. Something like that screwed to the wall would work.
PS.. the locker base is solid, I presume the floor extends all the way to the front.
Might have to resort to 4 brackets and some ratchet straps?
