Hi all!

Im so excited as i post this because yesterday my family and I purchased our first van - 1990 Sprite Musketeer XL complete with hot and cold water, a cassette toilet and an oven! We have been looking for almost a year for a budget van with all of these and no damp and really thought that we would never find one, but with a small increase in budget we managed to get this one from a dealers at £1995.

I remember caravanning as a child and my parents always seemed stressed and i remember my dad saying he would never put anyone through it again and since then we always did the package holiday abroad. Last year some friends invited us to stay with them in york and i saw their caravan (a 2005 swift 6 berth with fixed bunks) and immediatley i knew i had to have one. Our little sprite is nowhere near the scale of their swift but i love her and cant wait to pick her up!

Sorry for the long post but im so excited and thought id introduce myself,

Monica x

Hi Monica, and welcome to the site - I'm sure you'll enjoy every minute in your van, but if you do (just possibly) have or find any problems, don't be disheartened - no matter how big a problem (may seem), someone on here will have experienced it and be able and willing to help you out!

thanks all so much for your welcome!

Gram - with it being almost 20 years old i do anticipate that at some point problems will arise - its inevitable really but hopefully we will notice it early enough and i will be on here asking (pleading!) for help to fix it

Hubby will be the person towing the van because i dont think my licence will allow it (only passed my test 2 years ago) so we were hoping to go away for the bank hol at the end of the month but everywhere seems to be full. Oh well, might have to go the weekend after instead.

im too impatient

Welcome to the site,

You will love it, things are only stressful if made to be, my dad was the same when we we're younger caravanning but we are far more relaxed when we are away in our van

Many congrats

P.S. You may find you are entitled on your licence, just post back the max weight of your van and your car details and someone on here will work it out for you, as long as the total weight combined isn't ober 3500kgs you can tow,

Hope this helps

Hi, we too have just bought our first van and its 1991 Abi Marauder, we too are really excited to get out in it so because we can't wait we are going to try it out at a caravan park which is only 10 mins down the road from where we live, we would have slept in it in the garden if we had room but we had to take it straight to the storage site as the garden is to small to keep it here.

Hope you enjoy yours

sorry i have a question about caravan insurance. ive looked at the insurance thread and caravan guard came out cheapest for us at £155 for the year (think ive slightly overcovered but better than too little cover i suppose). the only thing is that it wont let me insure with just a hitch lock. its telling me i need a full axle wheel lock and with my sprite being a 1990 im not sure its going to be worth fitting one of these. the next cheapest was caravan club but i cant insure this until i know the chassis number or NCC number (too early for CRIS) which i dont have. i want the insurance before we pick it up just incase (god forbid!!) something happens en route to storage. i might call the dealers and see if they will let me go wednesday to get the number. do you think this is reasonable?

Tasty chef we looked at an abi marauder before getting this one and were all set to part with our cash until we went to the back wall and the whole thing was rotten with damp. i was well gutted and looked to see if it could be repaired cheaply but it was too extensive. i like the marauders, similar in size to our sprite. Enjoy your van im sure the disaster we saw was a one off! If i could have afforded to repair i bet i would still have bought it lol

God ive gone on a bit havent i?!

Monica xx

Monica

Welcome to the world of caravanning.  Did you go on a bit?  No, i seriously don't think so.  Our caravan's are our pride and joy, why shouldn't we be enthusiastic when talking about them.

We started off camping 2 years ago in a tt, soon moved on to a 2 berth caravan (just to see if we liked it - loved it) and got a 6 berth Avondale Malvern.  We are now waiting for our new Bailey Ranger GT60 540/6 to be "born".  I could chat for ages about every little thing on it lol.

I love the toilet (even thou we only use it at night/early morning), hot and cold running water, a sink with drain, well just about everything about my caravan lol

Jeannie

Hi
Your car and you van combined is going to be no where near the 3500kgs limit on the towing restriction on your licence,
there you go, you can tow it after all!! Good luck!
