We are off on our very first caravan trial to see if we like it before we take the plunge and buy.

We are renting a 6 berth with fixed bunks at the back.  We have two children one age 10 and one age only just 2.  The big one will sleep on the top bunk and the 2 year old on the bottom.  The problem is how do we stop the two year old falling out and falling on the floor?

Hi, Our son is nearly 3 and we use an inflatable Thomas the tank engine ready bed, available in argos for about £30.00. Its light and easily stored and he loves going to bed in his thomas bed. It has a shaped side to stop little ones falling out. Just to be on the safe side though, you could also put spare cushions or seat bases next to the bunk just in case.

hope this helps

I use to put some of the spare caravan cushions on the floor when ours were little so they had something soft to land on.

Our friends have the same problem, they use a peice of laminate flooring about 4 ft long, it slots in front of mattress and the frame. It is firm enough for the child to roll back into bed if she rolls up to it. Also puts spare cushions on floor in front of bed.. It's really not that far to fall..

hi you will find that the bunk mattress quite narrow and finding a bed guard small enough is hard we found putting the mattress inside a sleeping bag works well as long as they stay in the sleeping bag that is hope this helps Andy

Hi

We have just been on our first trip, and we have fixed bunks and a 2 year old.  I bought a tomy folding bed guard from argos and slid it under the mattress, it did the trick for us.

I use a Tomy folding bed guard too, (my daughter is 3 now). It slides under the bunk mattress and once the child lays on the top it's really quite secure.
