The A4 convertable will be Ok for towing , have seen a few with vans in tow but you need to know the kerbweight of the the car and aim for a caravan with a loaded weight (MPTLM)of about 85% of the Audi's kerbweight

 i.e   car kerbweight 1600kgs   = ideal caravan weight 1360kg (loaded)which is 85%

 The kerbweight will be in handbook also check the max towing weight and make sure the figure is above the loaded weight (MPTLM) of the caravan you intend to buy

check your cars kerb weight and try for 85% of this figure when you buy a van to be safe.as said a convertible ratio is less due to the structure of the car not the weight.

I would have thought that towing with the lid on would be better.

With the lid down it would offer a lot of wind resistance.

You will need to take a very serious note of the manufacturers towing limit. Older convertibles used to flex a lot because the lack of roof reduced the rigidity of the car. Audi tow weights currently seem quite good according to their web site. Remember nowadays insurers will do everything to get out of paying up for the slightest transgression from manufacturers recommended data.

Audi A4 looks nice. Wouldn't mind one myself. Just need the children to grow up and leave home so I have enough seats.

I would think it would be very noisy (lots of buffeting) to tow with the roof down.

Over rated as well, I remember my old MG Midget...had to run the heater in summer to keep warm!

It was a natural progression to put a roof on a car..why go back?
