Looking for some advice on where the best place to advertise our caravcan would be, have listed it on Gumtree and Adtrader, is it worth spending the money to list on Autotrader.

We would like to try and sell privately but we do have the trade in option.

Any suggestions??

We've sold two previous caravans on ebay. We put our last one on with reserve set at the same price we'd been offered for trade in.  We listed it for 10 days covering 2 weekends for people to view (although we only got viewers on the final day - 4 lots of them!).  There are plenty of cautionary tales on this forum about buying from ebay but we listed everything about the van, included plenty of pics and put contact numbers on for people to come and view.  We were also able to show them the CRiS registration stuff as we had owned it from new.  The eventual buyers (who viewed it) brought cash on collection and were more than happy with the caravan.  If the van hadn't met it's reserve it would have just gone for trade in, as it was, we got a little bit more so were able to buy a few bits for the new van.  The old caravan was 3 years old and the ebay fees (based on the selling price) were around £50.  Hope this helps.

Another vote for E-Bay from me, we sold our van last year on E-Bay. I advertised it as a Classified Ad with 'make me an offer' as we felt that gave us more control, and we didn't end up paying a large final sale fee at the end of an auction.
We also advertised in loads of other places like Ad Trader and here but the E-bay ad was the only one that got us any interest.

Make sure you use lots of photo's and be completely up front about the vans condition.

Good Luck

Joty

HI there,

I also sold my folding caravan on EBAY. I also did it as a classified AD, it cost £25 and we sold it within 2 days.

Good Luck - PS just don't anyone try and pay you via paypal for the van, as your costs will be very high :-)

I was talking about this on here last year, someone suggested Ebay, I adverised our van around 1145 on a sunday morning, it was sold for my buy it now price before 4pm same day. It was in super condition & 30 months old, I got almost the same price our local dealer ad them on the forecourt for & my buyer got a very good caravan.

I put it on an auction with a reserve I was happy to accept, I put a buy it now as well. I had an email from a person serious about buying it & he made me an offer. I wasn't happy to accept his offer but told him I'd lower the buy iy now to my lowest price for ONE hour. I lowered the Buy it now & he clicked it straight away.

One thing he did do that bugged me a bit was kept me waiting for 10 days because he couldn't come to me earlier. He then turned up with a stack of £20 notes & took it away.

I'd use Ebay again but I'd insist on my terms being met next time because I had several people contact me after I'd sold it, one offered to come here that night with the cash but I don't believe in seling something more than once & I waited for my buyer.
