has anyone towed on here between Auchtertyre and Achnasheen, looking at the atlas it shows sections with passing places -- is it definitely a no go, reversing up a short distance won't be a problem if I need to use a passing place. My memory of this sort of road is hazy & we weren't towing then

Dave i was up the A890 last week travelling from Lochcarron to Kinlochewe via Achnasheen and although the first part has some passing places it is Ok to tow as you can see far enough ahead to anticipate oncoming traffic , there are only a couple of sections that are slightly wooded where a degree of caution is required.

Not used that particular road for some time but your question reminded me of a story a friend told me several years ago.

Whilst travelling along one of the 'passing places only' roads they encountered a truck coming the other way. As the caravan tower was travelling up hill he decided to keep going thinking that the truck driver would recognise that it was easier for him to pull in and let the caravan continue climbing. Unfortunately the truck driver did not and the two met on the single track section.
After some heated exchanges the truck driver backed down and reversed back to the passing place. How did my friend manage to defeat this goliath of the roads. He simply said to his wife, go and put the legs down on the caravan and put the kettle on, we may be here some time and might as well have our lunch! Worked a treat! lol

Hope you have a pleasant and safe journey through that wonderful part of Scotland, Enjoy!

My OH does that when it is school time round here and the cars are double parked and she can't get through or they won't move she just gets the kids out of the car in the middle of the road and starts to walk home round the corner.

When the other parked car drivers ask whats she doing she replys going home for a brew until you move so i can get past.

They soon move.

Was planning on using this road to travel from Skye to Kinlochewe
I know there is a steep gradient 14% or 1:7 which seems reasonable to cope with but anyone know how long a climb it is
Anymore info on this road much appreciated
