Don't be put off buying an alarm by the prospect of false alarms. A decent alarm will not go off every time you light the gas to boil the kettle; it will be designed to sound after a minimum period of exposure dependent on the level of CO.
Ours is similar to this Fireangel CO-828. It gives a digital readout and we have never had a false alarm from it, though we don't barbecue inside the caravan
