Don't know if this will help if you can't get it fixed.  There are 5 of us (more often 6) and we use the toilet last thing at night/during and in the morning and if my littleun needs to go during the day.  I wanted to see how long it would take to "fill" up so left it for 3 days and it just started to turn from green to red.  But it was really heavy and i now empty it every 2 days.

Working from memory, the floats in two parts, the float and it's hinge.

The hinge is a small white plastic rectangular box that clips into the top of the tank, I found it impossible to get the float straight back in so decided to get the hinge out first and clip the float back into it, it's then an easy job to but both back in together.

The hinge has two clips on the short edges of the rectangle, I used a mirror and small screwdriver to release them but it's a sod to do!

Good idea to hose it down well first before you start!!!
