Has it got a thermol cutout??, if it has it may have become disconnected or it could be faulty and stopped working.

where the gas ring is there should be something like a small piece if metal that sits in the flame this is the thermol unit,they are useualy held there by a small screw on the top, but the connecting wire could be under the hob away from any heat.

if you can post the make and model may be someone will advice if they have the same cooker,or Garry may be along and help.
