Ok so to bring you up to speed - last week we found out shirls was a 94 van going by the chassis number after previously being told she was a 1990. Well i got insurance from the caravan club and a day later got a phone call informing me the van was a complete write off. Of course i almost had a heart attack and immediatley called the dealers to tell them i wanted my money back. They told me they had given me the wrong chassis number - the 1994 van was a write off and they were putting it right before they got it checked and sold it on and that our van was indeed a 1990 with no problem or dark history. I didnt know what to think so i took huby with me and a torch and we went to the dealers to get the correct number ourselves. The number hadnt been tampered with at all and was different to the one they had given us.

The dealers also told us that the electrics needed looking at so we have been waiting all week for an electrician to sort them out and we can pick her up on friday. 2 weeks after i bought her. I called the caravan club this morning and they said the correct chassis number is ok and also said that if dealers have more than one of the same make/model of van in they occasionally mix up the chassis number. The lady was helpful and told me to enjoy my holidays in my totally legit van.

I want to pick her up though and am getting very impatient.

At least it's all worked out in the end and will put an end to the doubt and mystery. Bet your dying to get out in her tho and have sympathy for your wait - I'd be sooo impatient!!

im not impressed in fact im quite cross. We bought her a week last saturday and shes fully paid for. I was told we could pick her up tomorrow and ive just spoken to the dealer whos now saying the electrician cant come out to look at her til tomorrow evening. So they will call us on friday and let us know when we can pick her up. I hope we can pick her up saturday.

Im impatient at the best of times and ive waited a year to buy a caravan due to many reasons (mainly a mix of increasing budget with not finding the 'right' van) and now im having to wait longer!! Sorry im just whining now.

Hi Monica, Maybe a little lesson to learn for everyone buying a caravan...Don't pay in full till you are certain it is ready to tow away.  A small deposit would have secured the caravan from any reputable dealer. This way the electrics would have been fixed on time with no faffing about. Once they have your hard earned cash they lose interest in the deal and look to sell another caravan to someone else. Hope you get it sorted very quickly and everything turns out fine in the end....

put it this way if its not ready to pick up this weekend im getting my money back and going to look elsewhere.

Of course i chewed their ear off (i can go on a bit if youve not noticed ) ive already booked this years holidays and a few weekends away starting 13th june so i need her asap to get everything sorted out.

im annoyed that weve found our perfect (for now, until we can afford a brand new one) van and arent able to pick her up. i dont want to start hunting for another one but what else can i do?

I hope it works out for you, especailly as you ahve had so to sort.

It might help to put something in writing to the dealer to make it clear it has to be ready - and it might be worth speaking to consumer direct to get the wording right as the dealer does seam to be starting to mess you arround.

I'm also supprised you had to pay in full before collection.

J
