Try herehttp://www.cuddles.abelgratis.net/kerbweights.htm and compare the mtplw of your van,as you probably know the van shoudn't be more than 85% of the kerbweight of your car,or post the mtplw of your van and someone will put you right! Just had quick look and the max tow weight is either 1400 or 1700kgs depending on model.Irrespective of the kerbweight of your vehicle.

Hi, what is the kerbweight, max tow weight and noseweight of your car and your caravan's MTPLM?

Did you pass your test before or after 1997?

Hmmm the Coachmans I can find online indicate an MTPLM of at least 1700 kg.  If that is the case you are going to be very close to 100% of kerbweight and certainly over the max tow weight if your Galaxy is one of the ones with the 1400 kg max tow weights.

Check the plates on the caravan and car so that you are 100% sure of the figures then report back, UKCS members have been finding Cuddles Abelgratis a little inaccurate on figures of late so can't always rely on them to have the right ones.

Hi, Having a 590 Coachman Laser myself I can tell you exactly what the weights are....Ex works weight is 1465kg and Max towable weight is 1760 kgs. So with that in mind you are into the 4x4s for towing one of these caravans.

From the information you posted the 2001 Coachman Laser is nearly 200 kgs lighter than the 2002 model yet the dimensions and fittings are pretty much identical. I have just checked the weights again on our Laser and the weights I posted earlier are correct.....

Beerok please don't go by cuddles abelgratis because a few weeks ago a few of us raised suspicions about the weights not being quite right and when we compared our vehicles, sure enough they didn't tally up.

Check with your car's plate which may be under the bonnet somewhere or on a door pillar or else go to a weighbridge.  Ditto the caravan which again will have a plate often just to the side of the bottom of the door.

You need an old peugeot 106 1.4 petrol to tow a caravan that large.

OK it may only weigh 815kg & have 75bhp but it seems it can tow 2415 kg.

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/Detail.aspx?deriv=11879

The auto's can tow even more.

I think the correct figures are 700kg & 500kg for auto's.
Don't trust everything you find on the net.

I have contacted them about this issue but seems they have not fixed it yet.

Erm Beerok that really doesn't sound like good advice to me.  Your car is not 1799 kg heavy is it?

From Cuddles Abelgratis

2.0 TDCi (140 ps) 6-speed 2006 1790 1521 75 1700

Your car has a kerbweight of 1790kg, and a max tow of 1700 kg!!!!

Please please check your car's handbook and plated weights before you tow with it because from where I am sat the figures don't add up.

All I can say is that Towsure have no reason to lie, i'm not buying it from them!

They were reccommended by coachman caravans.

Hi again, The Shogun I had was a LWB and had it weighed on a factory weighbridge and was 2250 Kgs Kerbweight. This should be fine to tow a Coachan Laser weighing in at 1760kg Max authorised weight.
