Can somebody help with caravan insurance, We have recently upgraded to a (newer) caravan and whilst we had our old Abi insured i never really looked into it much. Now the new one 2005 lunar lexon is worth much more i was checking the details of a crash my fault or not and nobody seems to cover the van for a your fault accident in transit.

The caravan insurance people say it needs to be covered by the car insurance (which is fully comp). They say they dont cover caravans its normally covered under house insurance.. they say you guest they dont cover it either.

Can anybody offer advise or best company that covers the van completly in transit wether your fault or not even though i appeciate if somebody hits me i can claim on their insurance provided they are insured these days......! i would just like complete cover for peace of mind

The only element covered under the house insurance is the contents but only if you have away from home cover.

Let me see if I can find you the T and Cs for somebody reputable.

Page 9 of 20 states it is covered whilst being towed.

Have a very similar query about continental travel and whether the caravan is covered for European use and what would happen in the event of an accident. I still need to confirm the facts with Caravan Guard, but unlike CC insurance (see link above), it is covered for 90 days abroad, and the policy does talk about repatriation from abroad.

What is not covered on my caravan insurance, however, is "liability arising from the use of the caravan when being towed". I think this may be where your confusion is. I phoned my car insurance (AA) and yes they cover the caravan for third party liability whilst being towed in UK and Europe. As an example, if the caravan becomes detached whilst towing and hits another vehicle, the car insurance will cover the costs of the other vehicle. The caravan insurance, however, will cover the cost of repair/repatriation or replacement of the caravan itself, and the caravan is definitely insured for damage whilst being towed.

I think I understand, but I will confirm with Caravan Guard tomorrow.
