Since when does a van dealer tell you or offer you a set of dates and times for you the Customer to collect your van?

Why cant i just go and pick it up at a time and date i want and not one that suits the dealer, the times i have said they cannot accommodate too busy!

Its my van and i am giving these people Money they are not doing me a favor selling the dam van to me.

rant over.

Book it on a day & at a time that you feel better doing, that's what we've done. I can see it from their point of view because they only have so much room at our dealers for hand overs & I guess they need to have time slots but as we didn't want the day they suggested we chose one beyond that ourselves. A week tomorrow & we'll have it here.

The dealer will have a huge workload so the limited time slot they offer there customers wont always suit everybody and unfortunately the world does not revolve around you mate

I would guess they want to do a proper 'hand over' & take time to explain everything. I would have thought if you tell them you will fogo that & just want hitch up & go they might accommodate you.

I don't think "might accomodate you" is the best we should accept.

I'd tell them I'm collecting it when it suits me, if it doesn't suit them that's their problem because we are all intelligent enough to work out how a caravan works. I find it insulting to be told "these are the taps" and "there is the cupboard"

I hope the handover is much more than this a cupboard and this is a tap lol

Did he actually tell you a date?  If he did then i'd keep him to it.  Our dealer tells us that ours will be in in week 27 and we expect to wait another 2 weeks for the motor mover to be fitted, hope it's not any longer than that.  He is going to phone when it arrives and i will try to get a specific date and book in a handover there and then if i can.

Niall, at the least you are helping me out greatly in what i need to do and what to expect, so someone is learning from your experience's

Hope you get it soon...

I am just being awkward cos i have had a bad week.

It is at the dealer now so they say....

all the tin boxes i have seen on the road in the north west/ yorkshire / N east/ wales, all week only one was a GT 60 and that was today at stoke on the m6 it looked good. those vans  with grey sides look ok too.

Anyway what is involed in the hand over thing and who pays for the number plate? if the price of the van is "OTR" it should be the dealer or in my case Will BE the dealer "legal requirement"

Just another small rant of mine. "realy bad week"

Not happy unless i am moaning :)

Niall

Niall please continue to rant.

I think that in britain we just take too much from people who want the cash and not the bother to give the service,

I am not saying this is the case in hand because i dont know, but I ordered a couple of settee's last year and the dealer said it would be 8 weeks to delivery, i agreed and when the eight weeks was up I got a call saying that the furniture was in the wharehouse then a call from the wharehouse saying they couldnt deliver for two weeks,

I phoned the dealer and told him i wouldnt argue about the issue but as they had the items in stock i was not prepaired to accept them if not delivered within two days

I had lots of calls from wharehouse and dealer but told them both to sort the issue between them or I would not accept delivery because they were breaking contract

They came first thing next morning

Regards, George.

We booked a time slot to collect our new-to-us van that suited us (worked well with handover, towing for 1st time & arriving at storage in time to get it in) but was also a quiet time for the dealer so we knew he'd have a good hour to go through everything properly with us without having to keep disappearing to see to other customers.

We did take a day off work so traffic would be quieter which suited us with towing for the 1st time - didn't fancy doing it on a busy weekend day!

LOL  It won't be our 1st caravan but the new one does have a lot of stuff that i want to know how to use/work.

Realistically how long does it take from the 'van arriving at the dealers to the 'van actually being ready to take home?

Niall, that's what we are here for.  Your lovely new 'van is at the dealers and you want to go and collect it, that is not being unrealistic is it?

We are off to Minehead on Monday to stay in a chalet at Butlins (courtesy of Tesco clubcard vouchers lol) and i just can't wait.  We can check in at 2.30, but can arrive on site at 12 noon.  With an hours break it will take 5 hours to get there so we should leave at 7am but i very much doubt we will leave that late lol.

So when are you picking it up??

When we bought our new van in March the dealer asked when we would like to collect. As the towbar had not yet been fitted to the new car (expensive month march) he offered to deliver and collect the trade in. 2 lads out of the workshop came with it, spend a good 30 to 40 mins with us even though it was similar to the old one. Couldn't fault the dealer at all, everything arranged around our conveniance.
