A few years ago gas BBQ's/Grills came in two flavours (no pun)

Top of the shop was the Beauclaire - with the Cadac trailing behind by quite some distance.

The Beauclaire was a lot more expensive, but was much the better of the two products, not least because of the full width gas jets that gave an even heat to the griddle.

We started off with a Cadac (because it was cheap) but always wanted a Beauclaire - heavily advertised in the Club magazines, and (seemingly) *the* essential accessory for all serious caravanners.

However, since buying a Beauclaire a couple of years ago they seem to have vanished from the outdoor radar - to the point where we've had people ask us about our own Beauclaire because they've never seen nor heard about them!

It's all Cadac, these days - what's happened to Beauclaire? - are they still in business?

Sort of.   The web address is for Towler & Staines, a Bradford based supplier of gas fittings etc

T&S retail the  Beauclaire - but I'm sure there also used to be a manufacturer's site, plus the Beauclaire was very widely available from all sorts of outlets, and also very heavily advertised.

I haven't seen a   Beauclaire magazine ad for ages - it's odd how things go in and out of fashion, as I said, at one time the  Beauclaire was considered to be the bee's knees of gas griddles.

We've had ours for years a good piece of kit , better than a cadac but far heavier due to the cast iron griddle . I note on the above link they now do a lightweight version but it is 30 -40 pound more expensive than the cadac equivalent . I think Beauclaire have priced themselves out of the market - a shame really !

Price was the only reason I went the Cadac route many years ago, but I was fortunate enough to win the bidding for one on ebay that was virtually brand new and local so I was able to collect it. I am very pleased with it now that I've used it a few times, we cooked some gorgeous breakfasts last week at Houghton Mill.
