Hello

I'm totally new to this forum and pretty ignorant when it comes to caravanning.

I have tented both in this country and in mainland Europe over many years and really want to have a base elsewhere where I can pursue some interests such as kayaking, biking etc. There is only my partner and me and we currently use a a Vango 6 manner and love it.As I hit 60 next year, I would like to mark the event by having a bit more comfort. We are particularly fond of NW Wales. I've looked at statics but been put off by the T&C. I'm tempted by the idea of buying a tourer and having it towed to a site for the season and then towed back for storage. I have no intention of towing it myself so will have to persuade a friend to move it twice a year. I have used the search function here but not really found what I need.

Although there are only two of us, I would like to be able to accommodate four adults and maybe even six at an (extreme) pinch. I couldn't afford a new van and confess I have little idea about towage and storage fees. Also I'm unsure about the structure of pitch fees and the associated conditions.

I would love to have a go at regular camping and repeat that I know virtually nothing so please don't flame me. Thank you for any guidance that you may be able to offer.

Jim

If you look on the Camping and Caravanning Website and the Caravan Club website, they will tell you what sites have seasonal storage.

Regarding what type of van you are after its best to look around some dealers.
Initially we were after a fixed bed, but ended up with a double dinette.

Hi we are seasonal in South West England, near Torquay.  Fees down here are typically £1500 plus per season with some sites going up to £3,000 would you believe!  Our site offers stow and tow, ie you can leave the van in a compound and when you wish to go down to the site they tow it onto a pitch, you pay for the pitch only when you are staying and when you are done, they tow you back into storage.

We are seasonal, so from 15th March to 31st Oct our caravan remains on a pitch, all set up with the awning up etc and we go to it whenever we want.  Some sites allow you to keep the awning up, others don't.

My advice to you is go on a recce around the area, decide where you would like to be then contact every site in that area.  Ask if they have seasonal pitches, tow and stow etc and if they do storage facilities and most will give you an idea of cost and availability.  You may need to go on a waiting list, you often do in South Devon for instance.

Have fun!

Ali
