Some pretty good stand-up comedy in this recent Yorkshire Post interview with the CEO of Discover Leisure:

(begin sketch)

"Administration in some respects would have been an easier route," said Mr Parker. "But why should we write the lot off? Whilst it has been a tough decision, morally it's the best decision"

A rip-snorter, that one!  -  the moral high-ground is not usually claimed, when offering unsecured creditors less than one quarter  of the sum they are owed (and they are expected wait up to 5 years to get even that pittance!)

----

"The simple reason of the CVA route was that we passionately believe in the business"

Good job I wasn't drinking coffee when I read that hilarious gem! - my own experience is that when people say that they  'passionately believe' in something, it's a sure sign that they are getting ready to bale out of it.

-----

"Our banks believe in the long-term future of the business"

Yes....I'm sure they do, honest Guv, strike me dead if the they don't.....

------

and also our manufacturers and suppliers who we have been in consultation with."

I bet that the suppliers (particularly the unsecured creditors) have been extremely keen on consultation

------

Under the terms of the CVA, Discover proposes that unsecured creditors of its main trading subsidiary, Signlease, are repaid 22 per cent of what they are owed – £2.29m over the next five years.

It argues creditors stand to recoup far less if the company is forced into administration or liquidation."

Nothing like veiled threats to spice up your comedy routine - this is cutting edge stuff, innit?

--------------

Discover needs 75 per cent of unsecured creditors to approve the CVA, but Mr Parker said he "pretty confident" this will be achieved "

Another gem! - if I were an unsecured creditor I would be thinking that there is more chance of me taking a holiday on the moon, before getting a single penny back from Discover - hence, I'd be tempted to put a stop to their shenanigans and vote to wind up the company.

(end quotes - Source: Yorkshire Post))

And, finally, an additional comment from the Bible (for those unamused by the comedy stylings' of Mr P)

"By their fruits shall ye know them"

-------------
'If it ain't broke, don't worry - it soon will be'

After 60 plus years of trading on the site at Hilsboro' Kent our local caravan dealer/repairer/emporium has disapeared. A couple of years ago they were taken over by Barrons and recently they became part of the Discover Leisure Group. I had noticed on the forums that it was mentioned that Discover were closing a couple of branches further up country. This often happens after takeovers or amalgamations to avoid in house competition but I was quite shocked on Sunday having gone to local branch only to DISCOVER it was closed and all the stock gone. Site was fenced with a large for sale notice on it and a security firm's van on the forecourt. I felt quite sick thinking of all the staff that have lost their jobs. I can only say thanks for your service in the past and wish them all the best of luck..................Mick
