I'm looking at getting a first caravan and something I'm finding difficult is somewhere to store it. I'm in Surrey and there are very few places locally (unless I'm missing an obvious place to find a list of advertisers?) and the ones I can find all seem to be booked up and with a waiting list.

A thought occurred to me to just go to a local farm and see if they were prepared to rent me a space on their land somewhere - is this feasible or totally nuts?

I realise there would be minimal security but I'm working on the assumption that it would be out of sight and not somewhere other caravans would be etc, etc...

Or are there any other weird and wonderful solutions to this problem? (I can't use my driveway).

A farm is a good idea and I would guess there are many on here that store their vans on farms, Just ensure its as safe as you can make it, wheelclamp, hitchlock etc and my advice is to leave the blinds open so people can see there are no valuables left in it, (which you wouldn't do anyway)

I live in a village surrounded by countryside and there are loads of farms around and if you look closely you will often see a group of caravans being stored on loads of the farms.  I'm sure if you asked the Farmer would be willing.

Whereabouts in Surrey are you?  Apps Court in Walton on Thames do caravan storage for £50 a month.  Don't think there is any security though

Hiya,

I would totally totally advise against keeping a caravan on a farm unless it is a proper storage site.

My FIL thought it was agood idea when his employer offered to allow him to store his hobby caravan on their farm in a yard which was used everyday many many times as it was a livery yard.

the caravan was stored in an open barn with an alarm on , 2 of the 4 wheels removed and the Aframe removed.

it was there at 6am when FIL went to work but as he drove by at lunchtime a hunch told him somthing was wrong, it had been stolen.

just over a year later it was found on a local travellers site, it turned out that they had been watching the caravan for some months , assessed it and decided how to remove it, they used a lorry with a hiab to drag it onto the lorry and tow it away.

one family totally devstated for the sake of paying for storage.

I kept my last caravan at a farm with no problem, although it was behind a locked gate. The yard was used daily so there was usually someone around to contact me had anything untoward happened.
