I want to replace the jockey wheel on my Elddis Crusader Super Sirocco for a wheel with a Pneumatic tyre.

Problem is I am told by Winterhoff that  cannot replace the Plastic type wheel for the Pneumatic tyre one without replacing the whole jockey wheel assembly as it i too wide for the arm opening. This would cost around £85.00 as it is fitted with the jockey wheel noseweight indicator.

Does anyone know if there is a Pneumatic wheel /tyre that would fit the Winterhoff jockey wheel as with the Alko jockey wheel you can buy a replacement with Pneumatic tyre for around £25 that fits the standard jocket assembly?

I once owned a Hobby with a Winterhoff hitch  (which, presumably, meant that it had a Winterhoff jockey wheel?) and I swapped the rigid wheel for a pneumatic one.

The wheel cost about £12 - but it wasn't a great success, I swapped the wheel, pumped it up, re-fitted the assembly, lowered the van - and the tyre immediately popped off the rim

When I checked the tyre it was so cheaply made it was scarcely believable - more like plastic than rubber.

Bought a new inner tube, refitted it all again, used the motor mover - and the tyre came off again after a few yards.  Then it was back to the solid wheel...

I suppose that with less nose weight and a better quality tyre it would have been OK - but I'd had enough messing around by that stage.  My point is that it was possible to change the wheel on the Winterhoff jockey wheel - even if the replacement was a waste of time.

EDIT:

I've just remembered more details (it was over 6 years ago)

When I went to the dealer the pneumatic wheels were 12 quid - but I had to buy a complete lower assembly as well because the original 'forks' were too narrow.  I forget how much the lower tube cost - but it was all a waste of money in the end

My van is on a BPW chassis, and when I bought it, I asked the dealer to fit a pneumatic jockey wheel, which he did. It appears that he just removed the solid wheel and fitted the new one from stock. I can only suggest you try a different dealer.

depends on the bottom section of your existing jockey, mine would definatly not fit a pnumatic tyre in, there is only 1/4 inch gap at the side of the rubber wheel.

Have a look for a second hand one - I recently got hold of a brand new unused AL-KO one for my new caravan from someone who recently changed thier van which has a differnt chassis, so didn't need it anymore, all for the bargin price of £25! (Not quite sure why they never put it on thier old van - obviousely they have more money than sense!)
