Wonder if anyone can help - we have only had our brand new van 5 weeks - when we laft left our storage area we met a van coming in the other direction. He did pull over for us, but of course when we arrived at our destination we found a scratch all along the front side window. We can't decide if it is rubber or whether it has actually scratched the window. We have tried to clean it off with detergent but it won't budge. Any suggestions - we wondered if surgical spirit or turps would stain the window.
We feel really upset - our first ever new van too!! Hubby thought it was tight but didn't hear anything as we passed. He has gone into decline!!
I noticed in the caravan shop there is some special window cleaner for caravns to remove scratches from windows, windows scratch very easily when cleaning, you don't notice it until the sun shines, then it shows up as fine scratches, we also have a few small dents in the caravan from the awning poles, ours was a brand new caravan when we bought it and whenever we noticed anything wrong our heart sank, but you just have to accept these things happen, our caravan dealer said that every caravan get scratches and or dings in them.
I wouldn't use T-Cut on the windows or anywhere else on a caravan, it's too abrasive to my mind. I use car polish on the windows (usually Mer), but you can get some special stuff as said above.
Our old van got a nasty scratch on the bathroom window in storage, the chap there advised me to use Brasso to remove it. It worked a treat but, obviously I don't know how bad the scratch is on your window compared to mine. What a pain with a new van.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions - think Brasso or the Fenwicks cleaner is what we will go with. I know we are bound to get knocks and scratches , we plan to really use it, but it still hurts!!!!! Our old van - 20 years old and never got snarled up or stuck like that - I guess this van is wider as well !
I would give T-cut or brasso or similar a try, but if it is a scratch you may find that removing the scratch leaves a severe indentation in the plastic and you still do not get rid of it, you will always see the indentation. If this happens your caravan insurers will sort the job out for you by fitting a new window ( total cost generally about £350 )

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
