Hello my name is lauren and i am a student at Lancaster university. I am doing a student project as part of my degree for a company in North Lake District. The reason i am asking for your help is because the company is interested in diversifying into some caravan storage and want to know how much people are prepared to pay etc.... and unfortunatly i don't know many caravan owners to ask. So if any one has 5 mins spare and could answer a few questions i would be very very very greatful.

Thank you in advance :)

1.      Which county do you live in?

2.      Do you currently store your caravan away from your premises?

If yes-

3.      Where is it stored (don't give name of site)

4.      Is it stored near to your home or a frequent destination?

5.      How much do you pay and what facilities do you get for this?

6.      What medium did you use to find this site?

e.g. internet, local magazine etc...

All

7.      What facilities would encourage you to use a caravan storage facility?

-          Secure metal fencing around the perimeter

-          Guard dogs

-          CCTV

-          Onsite presence 24/7

-          Caravan servicing

-          Free damp check

-          Other please detail........

-          Cleaning prior to collection

-          Access to caravan times

-          Use all security features provided

-          Towing services to local camping sites

-          Under cover

-          Other please specify_____________________________________________________

8.      For the above choices what would be the maximum you would be prepared to pay for 12 months storage?

9.      Which of the above would you see as extras not included in the yearly fee and as such be prepared to pay extra for?

10.  Would you be interested in a towing service to and from a campsite within the county in which your caravan is stored? If yes what price would you pay for this?

Would towing your caravan down a few narrow lanes affect your decision to store your caravan there? If yes why?

This is a strange way of doing research, really you should be researching sites your self then just ask people what they would pay and want etc. It’s not a good idea to ask people to divulge so much information over the Internet.

I wouldn't want to give it for security reasons, and I don't know how valid your findings would be.

This is a strange way of doing research, really you should be researching sites your self then just ask people what they would pay and want etc. It’s not a good idea to ask people to divulge so much information over the Internet.
I wouldn't want to give it for security reasons, and I don't know how valid your findings would be.

I think asking people on here is actually quite a good way of doing your research, as you should get quite a good cross-section of caravan owners and from many different parts of the country however from a security point of view I too don't think it is a good idea to divulge so much information on a public forum. One of the things with where we store our caravan is that it is not easy to find and only known about by those who need to know.

A better way might have been to give an email address where people could send their answers to you and only you would see them. Also do you want your fellow students to know what you are doing?

Ok Re reading my post it didn't sound so helpful! – put it down to my tooth abscess!

I work in research and if one of my clients wanted me to do something like that I would start by researching what is available. Then put together a questionnaire to find what people are paying now for storage and what they would look for, but as others have suggested not have people reply in such an open way, as any business I am working for would not want everyone lese to get the information too! I’d also make it less specific so that more people would respond i.e. take out name of storage site.

I hope that helps you with your degree.

J

This is an open forum and I think too much information is being given away for all to see. This could joepardise ssecurity at the sites named above.
A better way would have been a link to a website with a "survey" form. Well that I s what i wsoudl have doen when in varsity several years ago.

I think it's fine provided people don't actually give the storage location's name ( as I didn't ) I will edit out the names, and amend the form.

Yes not giving names of sites makes it a lot safer, its a good idea to edit them out.
