Just got back from a week away and OH noticed the 12 volt was not working, no lights no nothing. Checked the fuses and found the battery fuse blown. Put new 15 amp fuse in all ok. Noticed then the battery was very low on charge. Towed for 3 hours with fridge on we think. Does anyone know what could have caused this, the caravan was hooked up to electric all week.

having your rcd on might have caused it as when you plug in your 240 it will surge the system or you've got a loose wire somewere on the 12v side
You don't get "surges" as such...they're for lightning strikes! But I know where you're coming from!
All's that happened is the fuse has possibly blown due to starting current from the fridge motor creating induced back voltages, It would probably be a one-off, but if it keeps recurring then to be double sure have your wiring checked and tested by a professional.
Noticed your location is Sunny Swad by the way.....me too!

Hmmm not sure exactly what could have caused that to blow.......... I wonder if by doing what you did the 240v has backfed thru the 12v system? (Wonder if that's what DaleR meant by "surging"?) Try doing what you did again and see if it blows the 12v fuse. If so then that's probably what's doing it. If not then have your wiring checked out.

The golden rule with fuses is, if it blows change it, if it blows again there is a fault. This is because fuses are known to age and become less tolerant of higher end current flow.
If you have an rcd type device and it trips then you have a fault as they are not susceptable to ageing like fuses.
