Hi all, have just taken our 2007 Sprite Quattro in for its 2nd service, and pointed out a couple of problems to my dealer.Wonder if anyone can shed any light on them for me?
In the bathroom, behind the toilet area,(on the wall),there are lots of small, hard pimple-type lumps. There is no staining or discolouring around them, however,on the adjacent wall there are some pale blackish marks, which the dealer actually pointed out to us.Also, the wall covering over the joint in the wall appears to be 'loose' looking (sorry if this is a bit vague).I have been scouring the web and am getting more worried by the minute. We have had alot of problems with the van since new,but now everything seemed sorted,(until now),and we love her to bits.
Does this sound like a damp problem? The dealer is being ok at the moment,he himself admits he is baffled by the lumps and has said he's going to try and get 'a sprite man' out next week to look at it(I assume he means someone from Swift?)
I'm really worrying about it.I know she's covered by warranty, but its still worrying we might have a damp van.
Another problem is the cooker-its rusting, all around the top.Is this to be expected on a 2 year old van?I'll be the first to admit it hasn't had too much use lol .Has anyone else had these problems?
Many thanks,
Jenny

Yes, sounds like damp. Your cooker problem could be down to the elevated humidity levels due to the damp. I looked at a van last year (older than yours I've got to say) and all of the exposed metalwork inside the van was corroding.

Try part-exchanging the van - you will find that the dealer suddenly becomes 'un-baffled' as he writes down the price due to damp.

You've got to hand it to some of these dealers, they deserve Oscar nominations for their acting abilities!  They spend a lifetime dealing with damp UK caravans, and can *still* put on a convincing display of bewilderment when the occasion calls for it.

Thanks for your replies-looking more like damp then .The dealer isn't very forthcoming with information,I haven't heard anything since Friday, when I phoned them and eventually got through (had been trying since Thursday morning). Not sure what will happen if it is confirmed damp? Will it go back to Swift for repairs?I've read that if it does,it can take quite a while for them to do (3 months in one case).Am now worrying because we have several trips book throughout the summer, our main holiday is in August,I could end up without a van for the majority of the summer .
I'm assuming they wouldn't replace a 2 year old van?

If the interior wall is coming away from the outer wall the dealer will need to send the caravan back to the manufacturer as there is a serious issue. we have the t-shirt for this one!

Have just spoken to the dealer, apparently the bathroom damp reading is 30%.He says there is a crack on the outside rear quarter panel, between the lights and the grab handle which is how the damp got in-we have never noticed this, have never had a bump in the van and honestly can't remember anything hitting the van.Could it of been there from new?He is going to seal the crack for now,and put a warranty claim in for the damp and the cooker. We are going to fetch the van in the morning,as he says it is fine to use it in the meantime.Purely for my records,I have asked him to wait until we are there to seal the crack,so I can take some photo's beforehand.
Very worried,
Jenny

Hi

Regarding the cooker trim, we are on our second Swift Group van.  On both vans, the trim around the cooker top rusted after about 2 years.  We had the first one replaced on our Ace under warranty, but haven't complained about the one on the Swift- yet!

My parents have a 2007 Abbey and their cooker trim has rusted too.

Just a guess - but I reckon its likely to be a common defect !!!
