We are seriously considering buying a brand new twin axle caravan which the dealer has for sale at approximately £15k. We would not need to part exchange our folding camper, as we would sell this privately. What type of deal should we be expecting from the caravan dealer do yout think? Should we be asking for a reduction in price or what should we expect him to 'throw in'. An awning perhaps? We don't want to have unreasonable expectations, but also don't want to be taken for mugs, and never having bought a new caravan before, don't really know what to expect/ ask for. Any advice welcome! thanks

Definitely dont pay the asking price, when you say brand new is it 2009 or 2010? The 2010 ones will be out very soon so 09's are old stock to them now. We got an awning thrown in with our 2nd hand one from a dealer so you should get one too.

We know a guy who worked for Discover and apparently dealers have 3 - 3.5k mark up at least on new vans so they have plenty of room for manoeuvre on price.

Just as a guideline, when we bought our new swift charisma last year, we got a price reduction of 1k, the mover removed from our old van and fitted to the new one free of charge and a package of accessories including awning, groudsheet, hookup cable, water and waste carriers, an extra leisure battery and the converter cable from the new 13 pin connector to our existing twin sockets. Oh yes and anew set of towing mirrors

Don't seem too interested and don't try to negotiate a deal with him.. If he thinks you will buy it at the asking price then he won't be offering any deals. If you go in and look at it, have a chat, but make it clear that you can't afford to spend £15000 at the moment but would be interested if he had something for about 10 or 11 grand then he may be trying to do a deal with you instead.
