After a childhood of many camping holidays and spending the last 5 years as a camper taking kids of mine, I eventually gave in and said, hey lets get a cheap caravan and see if we prefer it...
I am happy to sleep out in the awning, I like the fresh air but just looking to see if anyone has similar stories really I guess
I'd be camping every weekend but o/h doesn't like it and I can't put the tent up by myself... We only ever go to sites nr my Mum's in East Sussex because she is a tent ace but fancy a change of scenery as well as just being able to take off on a whim lol
Can imagine that! I bought an estate car in February just because we needed a bigger car AND we have a trailer!
Now thinking, do I sell the tent which is only 2 years old or keep hold of it. But at moment, just geared up for getting the caravan ready for hopefully a night away on Saturday!
still camping but seriously looking at caravan (had one in past but didn't use it enough) Its the packing and unpacking and the trying to dry the tent which can sometimes drain all the enjoyment out of trip... so thats why caravan seems good option. We also have space on drive now (had other one in storage, miles from where we lived) We have big car, trailer and top box and I still end up with one of the dogs on my knee!
we gave up camping 2 years ago and got a avondale dart 556/6 2001 modle and never looked bak the kids still love to sleep in the awning well bedroom anex any way . done camping for about 4 years it was great but so much easier with the van although a lot more things to remember
We got our caravan in January 2008 after spending 5 years camping with our huge tent and our friends. We got fed up with caravanners turning up after us, setting up and sitting outside their awning with a beer when we were still sorting out our tent and all the gear!!!! That and getting flooded out a few times persuaded us to move up to the caravan.
I’m not new to it - I spent the first 18 years of my life caravanning with my mum and dad and to be honest one of the things I love about it is that it brings back all the great memories – my children now have the same fun I had 30 years ago.
You won’t regret moving to the caravan, it opens up the whole year to adventure.
I too moved from tents to a folding camper and finally caravans.
I still occasionally sleep in the awning (if it's warm and the caravan is full of my sons friends or the rest of the family lol) or take the little pop up tent, and sleep in that if I'm not using the awning.
But I love my caravan, it's so much easier and quicker to set up. I can load the caravan at the beginning of the season then everything stays in and ready for our hols. Stopping for a meal on the motorway no longer fills me with dread, we can pop into the van, stick the kettle on and eat in the comfort of our own 'little' home.
We did camping for years then got a trailer tent, loved the trailer tent until we went away with friends in there caravan (my husband said it was a bad idea) needless to say when we got home i wanted a caravan we own a lunar zenith6 and i love it could never go back to camping ( not even for 1 night)
------------- If you want something said ask a man, If you want something done ask a woman
We moved from camping when we had two westies and one kept getting out through the bottom of the tent, I think the decision was made for us, when one morning Harry decided he wanted to explore, and we found him in someone elses tent, Harry was aparently waking up the occupants as they slept in their sleeping bag, by licking their faces.
LOL, seems to be a popular choice to move onto a caravan then...
Today, we took the caravan down to a friends and got all the awning bits out. We hadn't actually seen the awning or had any idea how to put it on but 3/4's of an hour later, it was done!
