Hi , got a motor mover to fit over the weekend and was looking for advice on if its best in front or behind the axle ? I currently have to be carefull when packing the van to get the nose weight within limits so was thinking behind the axle but would this make much difference to nose weight ? Also been thinking of getting an Alko spare wheel carrier , as spare currently is housed in the front locker , to help take some weight off the front but is there room for this if the motor mover is behind the axle ? Any advice be great .

Hi

Ours (and our last two) have been fitted in front. I think the only time they are fitted at the back is when shocks have been fitted.

Cheers

Paul

It is so close to the axle, it will make no difference to the noseweight. Technically it can be fitted to either side, Powrtouch recommend fitting it in front as it is more likely to get showered with grit and debris from the road when fitted behind the axle.

We had the Truma fitted to ourr twin axle Pageant Loire S7.  It is at the front.  It's a great gadget and makes manoevring so much easier.

The best thing is even I'm allowed to use it!  My 13 yr old son says he'd be better at it than me as he has remote control plane, car, etc but we haven't let him loose with it yet!

I would have thought it would be better to fit to rear if poss. If its on the front its more likely to get damaged if you hit a kerb or summat.

I fitted my enduro behind the wheel, because it wouldn't go in front due to some ducting.

It gets covered in mud which gets caked on and I have to power wash and regrease it regularly. So definitely in front is my advice.

On my previous caravan it was fitted in front and this was never a problem.

You guys with movers are all making me very jealous. Our van was booked in to have one fitted when things started to look dodgy on the job front. I decided to cancel it just incase I finished up out of work and needed the money for something else. Sure enough a week later I was jobless.

Never mind I'll get a mover one day.

Does your Pathfinder have a toilet compartment? If so, because of strengthening of the chassis in that area and at the door, you may only be able to put it behind the wheels. Personally I would prefer to have it fitted rear of the wheels - have heard stories of movers being kerbed on bends and problems with speed bumps when fitted in front.

AL

PS I don't think you will have room for the spare wheel carrier if mover is behind the wheels.

Thanks for all the replies and sorry Draig , just realised i hadn't updated my profile , sold our Pathfinder and now have a caravan . I've now got my hands on the mover , its a Truma / carver Euro mover ( second hand ) and in the fitting instructions it says to mount it behind the axle which seems to go against the general opinion on here . It does say under certain cicumstances it can be mounted in front . Need to offer it up to the van over the weekend and see if the fitting kit supplied is the right one for my chassis . Can't wait to get it on , no more holding the traffic up trying to reverse on to the drive !
