When I had my Bailey Pageant it had the water pump (whale in the aquaroll) type which I bought a spare (approx £50), to keep in the van whilst on my summer holidays in France just in case it stopped working.
I have just changed my van for a Crusader which has an aquasource inboard pump fitted and thought I would buy a replacement to keep in the van as a spare on my holiday to France this year just in case. I have found these are just over £100 or so, which to buy as a 'may need' is expensive, also if failed it would be a warranty job anyway. Has anybody any ideas how to get round this problem as all the water system is run by this pump and I would not imagine it would be easy to get hold of in France. The ideal situation would be for a dealer to loan one on sale or return, does anyone know of somebody that does this?
You have asked a question that has been crossing my own mind. It would be interesting to hear about the reliability of the inboard pumps as we are about to change vans with the built in variety.

Pumps are very very reliable. most of them fail because of them been run dry. I am in the proses of fitting 12v Liquid Sensors to the onboard tank & external water pump. No more new pumps needed then.
To me the issue is not availability but reliability! We have been used to taking a spare submersible one with on our travels around Europe but the built in ones surely should be much more robust or is that wishful thinking on my part?
the onboard pump we have can run dry without any problems, i did run it dry many times when we first got the van, this is our first van, over winter i did remove the pump it did freeze some water was left in the pump, so i stripped it down it looks a very well made can not see much going wrong with these the micra switch is simple to replace i would not worry to much about it. with this being our first caravan not sure how loud a inboard pump should be, yes you can hear it we dont find it a problem if you can hear it its working!
Hi Folks, Like most of you i carried a spare submersible pump when traveling abroad with the van, never used it though, Chris and i have recently changed the van for one that has a onboard pump, we won't carry one of those with us. working with tourers every day i have only replaced one onboard pump in five years and that was frost damaged. If you do have a onboard pump failure whilst abroad they are available most most dealers over there, may not be the same make but will do the job.
