i wouldnt pay that, some of these sites are cashing in on the fact that alot of people are taking up camping. But not all the sites are, look around and see if there is any cheaper ones. There will be plenty of family sites that are cheaper.
When you say it is a good family site, I assume you mean it is somewhere with family entertainment. There are sites around that charge even more. We had a quote of about £150 for 4 nights with no EHU in July from one Haven site.
Don't know if this will go down well but it's not greed! not altogether anyway or though there will be an element of that?
Sites are setup to cope with what's normal, it seems things this year are far from normal.
The owners and staff of big sites have to cope with this and that will mean more staff or longer hours and overtime payments, all costing them more. There will I'm sure be several other higher costs involved as well.
On the other hand, a small site run by one person may well be overwhelmed by the extra work and upping the price is more to 'ration by price' than money grabbing, it's just simpler to do it that way?!
Then there is the question; was last years price fair to the owners and you? or too cheap?
The other is uncertainty for the future, who knows what it will be like next year?
I don't agree because when i made the booking it was for the end of June going into July and was told by the person taking the booking that the price was going up by £3 per night as my stay was going into July and "the schools were on holiday then"
That is not just to cover cost but to take advantage of the situation if you have Kids
We have noticed that many site have put prices up this year, one site that we go to by 60% on last years prices, simple, we wont go again LOL, but obviously people are paying these prices, so the sites will keep the fees high, it would be nice to see some of these sites with lots of empty pitches.
More people have taken up camping/caravanning this year due to the poor exchange rate etc. for those that normally do a package holiday, paying £350 per week per family must seem like a bargain holiday.
The site we use most often have not increased their prices since 2003 and is not doing so again this year, despite spending a lot of money on upgrading the site electrics. As for their facilities you would be hard pushed to find a small site anywhere with such great amenities, Gents and ladies plus three shower rooms and a family bathroom, all of which are fully accessible for disabled people. Staff wise the owners are one of the best we have ever known and nothing is too much trouble, a sentiment echoed by the staff on site as well. Value for money and a great atmosphere are two of the most important aspects for us and this site covers that and so much more!
Someone mentioned the reduction of VAt from 17.5% down to 15% should have seen a reduction in charges. Has anyone seen the reduction in site fees? I haven't!
we are taking our 4 year old niece to Butlins ( i know its not everyones choice ) , she loves it and theres always something for her to do, for 2 adults , 1 child under 5, EHU + awning for 5 days £65, plenty of toilets/ showers if you need them and the last time we took her we all had a great time, like I said not to everyones liking but we do take her to other sites as well but this is a treat for her. me and the mrs have just had a week at THE DUCK PONDS near lincoln, luvly clean site , superb fishing no noise and all for £17 per night(caravan , awning EHU and fishing x2) now thats what I call a bargain. my philosophy is if you think its dear go somewhere else theres thousands of sites. atb Bill
