Last year we only managed to get a week away in our recently purchased van after it sprang a leak, traced in the end to the boiler.

This year then we hope to get a few more trips out of her starting this weekend. I am gradually learning the ins and outs but have a couple of questions that are probably obvious but I am not sure, can you help?

1. We also recently purchased a new car and I have had it fitted with twin electrics (previously have only had a single). The question is, to charge the Vans battery and run the fridge whilst towing do I need to switch anything on in the van (other than the Fridge switch to 12v). I appreciate this may be a very van specific question but perhaps your answers may point me in the right direction

2. A more simple question. Is there a special hose/connector that I need to use to connect the outlets (see http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.towsure.com/product/840-Outlet_Hose_Socket) for the Shower, Waste etc to the waste container. The pipes that were supplied with the van have no connection on the end and struggle to hold onto the outlet

Any comments welcome and appreciated

Steve

If it helps the Van is a Craftsman Superior 1995

On the electrics:- There should be a 3 way switch with a battery meter above/below it it should have a picture of a car one end and a caravan the other and put it on to car when travelling and van when on EHU in the middle is off

Most vans use a push on type of connector for waste and no they are not perfect but you can change them and make one that suits you better/is a tighter fit Have a look round when you get on site and some one will have done it or you might get a better idea from a newer van HTH

Thanks, I have the 3 way switch put no pics (or words) underneath. Is there another way to test if the switch is in the right position

Thanks for the idea also on the connector

It should be Car to the left--- van to the right----off in the middle, have a look in your manual if you have one there might also be a 12v switch on/or near the consumer unit that turns on the charger (In my Folding Camper it's a switch on top of a black box next to the consumer unit) Which I think you only operate when on EHU Also do a search on here As I have only done this 4/5 times you might need to verify this

The 1st night we had in our caravan we missed the charger switch and just ran on the battery all night as we hadn't travelled very far we soon flattened it as we tested everything to make sure everything worked
