Hi, Were thinking of buying a used Knaus Starclass 560 and I have a few qustions.

1) Does anyone have any specs and equipment lists on a 2006 or 2008 model

2) Is it true or just B/S that they are hard to insure

3) Is it true or just B/S that some parks will not let them on site

4) Are they a good buy

5) Are they hard to sell

Anyone that has one please contact us as we would like to hear from people who have real experience and not just rumors.

Hi there

We have the Knaus Starclass 470 and have had no problems insuring it or getting on sites - we nearly always use Caravan Club sites.

We love ours - it's our 3rd van and our previous 2 (Swift & Eldiss) do't compare to the excellent build quality although the downside to that quality is the Knaus' are heavy!

Don't know about hard to sell as we have no intentions of doing so for a while as, other than possibly a new Hymer, we would struggle to find something to compare and even tempt us.

Bit of an urban myth that comes from them having the door on the continental side because they are German built. It might however be UK spec with the door on the lefthand side as Knaus do build UK spec models, unlike some continental manufacturers.

They are good 'vans & probabley better built than UK made 'vans so if the price is right, go for it.

Hi again! Just to clarify the Starclass is built to UK spec which includes the door on the "correct" side.

Hi and thanks,

Thanks Tamgyp and Kabbes for the reply's it seems that Knaus are a good caravan and worth looking at.

The caravan on the web did have the door on the UK side and looked great from the pic's.

The only problem with the web advert was there were no spec's about the caravan only some basic stuff, so if anyone has a spec on a Starclass 560 we would love to hear from you.

No, they are not hard to insure - we pay £350 for a 2 year old German caravan

Never encountered a problem with our German van

Yes, they are a good buy - not least because you can be 99% sure that it will be dry and sound (unlike their UK counterparts)

Not hard to sell to people who have trailed around viewing the dismal assortment of damp UK vans ( many of them fairly new) that clutter up the 'for sale' ads.

Take it from me - German vans  really *are* better built & sealed than anything the UK can offer.

Is there a UK dealer?  Can't find anything on "tinternet" - We are seriously looking at a German van to replace our ageing Swift.   Hymers are lovely (but expensive) and Dethleffs look good too, but having seen photos of a Knaus, these look brilliant, but can't find a UK seller.

Is it true that Knaus have gone bust?

We would value any opinions on Knaus from owners on this forum.
