Hi what would you do in my situation regarding selling our van? We have an old hobby, bits n bobs don't work in it and its not in brill condition but layout is great and its damp free. Ive got a buyer for it who knows all the bad bits but still wants it. The trouble is i just can't find another van to replace it when it goes in a few wks.

My hubby wants to hang onto it until we do find something else, but im in thinking what if we find it difficult to get another buyer. I am very honest and will always point out the negative aspects of the van, ie cassette loo doesn't flush, gas fire doesn't work and the fridge only runs offgas (which is also a right pain to get working). I'm sure another buyer would find all this off putting, plus the fact its a hobby which peeps arent keen on anyway! We have until the 25th of July to get a new van but funds are low and we only really have about 3k to spend. I suggested to hubby that we buy an early 90's 5 berth with awning and put our teenager out there for the summer (we have 4 kids) and then save up and buy a late 90's 6 berth for about 5-6k in the spring. Hubbys not happy with this as he hates the look of older vans and doesnt want it on the back of his shiny new van lol.

I just don't know what to do and i'm fed up with arguing with about it. We rarely argue over anything but this has been a real bone of contention. He's been looking at mid 90's vans for about 4k and thats been causing rows too because i think its a rip off for something so old but he says well thats what their going for nowadays!

Argghh what would you do in our situation. I just want shot of this blooming hobby. Yes its a lovely layout with a fancy leather sofa and feels like a home from home but all the sites that will allow are awful!! They are the type of sites that i wouldnt touch with a bargepoll! the only site ive been to that i liked was Twelve oaks near Newton Abbot, quiet, clean loos, nice pressure in showers and a lovely heated outdoor pool. The thing is we've been twice already and are booked again for August but i get fed up seeing the same ol places lol.

Just to top it off hubby is now looking for a newer hobby arghhhh! I love caravanning but this could be the death of it for me if he doesn't give in and come round to my way of thinking.

Sorry for the moan, i'm just really peeved off at the mo 17

Sorry to hear about the trouble the situation is causing you but I would just let your Hobby go.  If you have found a buyer with the faults it has and they are happy just take the deal and start looking for your new van!

Hope it's all sorted soon!

Someone on my side, thats what i like to hear! i have just found another van with long seats at the back that could easily be turned into bunks and with an awning too withn our price range. its twin axle which is what hubby wants and it doesn't look to old fashioned on the outsite. watch hubby turn his nose up at it because he wants another hobby! I'm not sure of the year of the van but have emailed to ask. Its a coachman vip. I would say its about a 93/94. He wants £3300 or make an offer. I know it sounds a lot but i think i'm just going to have to give in and pay this sort of money as everyone is getting in on the act of making money on caravan sales lately and i'm just not seeing anything cheaper with the size and layout we need.

ooh i see you went to Ross park in May, it looked lovely on the website and had great reviews. Did you like it there? I was going to go but it worked out expensive with all my lot plus i'm not part of the cc. i'm part of the c&cc but have to admit nothing has really tickled my fancy although we are considering the one in corfe castle if we can get a booking.

Cheers for the reply!

I would agree, we sold our Swift 2 berth after advertising it on ebay and wondered if we were doing the right thing taking an offer rcvd within 24 hours of advertising but we did and in the week that followed awaiting collection and payment we had no more interest.....if we had held off we could have lost that buyer and been left with the caravan still to sell and end up taking a lower offer, get shot while you can I say, especially when it has its faults.

I'd get rid of the Hobby pronto while you have the chance or you could be stuck with it.

The Coachman sounds nice, and at a reasonable price. I don't think you should be paying more than £3.500 for a mid 90s van.

Ive sent a pic of the van and some info to hubby and he said it looks ok but we need to let the hobby go first. Aww why did our buyer have to be on hols .....on a good note though he's agreed to the let the damn thing go yippee! He then said he still likes the idea of a newer hobby.....boo hiss! I will get my own way watch this space 17.

p.s what should i be paying for that coachman. It doesnt say what series it is but i found an identical one online with same furnishings and layout and it said it was a coachman 500 vip 5 berth. (big double at bk with bunk above) Its on ebay. The other one i found was advertised in march for £1600. what a shame!

The guy with the coachman got back to me and said it was a 1990 yet he wanted £3330 for it! OMG where do people get their ideas from????

I've seen another Avondale pentland 6 berth 1998 which we are both very interested in. The start price is £3500 and i would be happy to pay that if they accepted an offer on it.  On another site the same model was up for over 6k!!! Everyones gone mad lol.

We bought our 1995 Swift Conqueror 640 in excellent condition from a dealer for £3900 with a 12 month warranty about 6 months ago. Sleeps 4 kids at the front (2 singles and 2 bunks) and a big L shaped living area / double bed at the back. Perfect layout for us as a family and with the awning on we have bags of room for the kids to play too. .
