I've tried to do a search on this but not got anywhere.

We are looking for a lock long enough to tie our 4 bikes to the caravan steadies but can't seem to find one long enough...hubby reckons we need one over 2m in length.

Anyone know of such a lock and where we could get one?

had a quick look but can only find max 1.8m in length

B&Q? Motorcycle shop? Buy the best cable you can afford,i had my motorcycle fastened to the garage wall with a cable lock until the lock refused to open and just hacksawed the end off easily.

New one is much more substantial

You can always join 2 cables together by using twin padlocks with the same keys, I bought mine from Wilkos for chaining up a specially made step for people with mobility problems, which cost a small fortune, and now its nicely secured to my wheel clamp so it doesnt go walkabouts during the night.

As said above. Long length of welded chain and a big padlock. Cheap and a good deterent. makes a racket too if someone tries to get at your bikes.

You can buy bike cable locks which are made to the same thief-proof standards as bike shackle locks ie no bike lock is 100% thief resistant, but some are better than others. What we use are several cable locks, one passed round the object we're chaining the bikes to and three or four others in a web through different parts of the bikes and through the fixing cable. Then we bungie a small tarp over them. It certainly slows us down when we're unchaining them! Also it means that one bike lock can be used away from the campsite while leaving the rest chained up if necessary.

However...many bike insurance policies stipulate that bikes are chained to an immovable object. How immovable is a caravan steady?

B&Q sell plastic coated multistrand cable. You can buy any length you want.

Put a loop at either end and fasten the loop with a shackle (similar to a car exhaust pipe clip only much smaller.)

Once you have tightened the shackle to a standstill, ruin the threads exposed so that they can't be undone and there, with the addition of a good padlock, you have a secure cycle lock.

The beauty of using cable is that it is not rigid like chain and is therefore less susceptable to being bolt cutted off.

get a good thick chain and a good padlock and chain the bikes together ive been doing this for the last 9 years had no problems.Never attached to any thing just rely on the weight of the bikes.

i wanted long one for just this reason but ended up with 1.8m ones from ebay as they were only £2.50 each and I bought a few, they coil nicely round the seat post when not in use so are practical for taking when we go off for the day on the bikes, something that heavy chain might not be good for.
