Hi, we are looking to buy our first caravan and have been looking at a few but find the prices differ greatly for the same types and age of vans. I was wondering if there is a website where you would be able to find out what is an acceptable price to pay, almost like the list price of a car, just so we know we aren't getting ripped off.

Don't think there is a price guide as such, of course the dealers use the glass's guide but they guard that like anything!

Maybe look at some prices then look up what they would of cost as new? gives you a rough idea, It really depends on the make, some hold their prices better and how old the van is, not much help was I? lol

All you can do is look at all the different sites like autotrader, caravan finder, etc and on here also.

Then write the year etc down along with the price and then get an average of what to pay. But NEVER pay what the dealer wants and better still wait untill winter only a few weeks away (November time) as the dealers will be sat a round playing with themselves with nothing to do.

Hope this helps Niall

Buy the best one that you can afford, that ticks all your boxes. I reckon you feel one that has been loved, and smell and see its condition. Assuming it is not an old one. Then you get into dampmemters and all sorts of tests. If you can find pristine it has usually not been abused. Dont settle for less. Good luck and enjoy the adventure.

I have tried using the link above in our search for a small 2 berth with end kitchen and I find that the prices quoted for both forecourt and private sales bare no relation to reality. Most of the models I am looking at are a good £1-2000 above those quoted on caravan price guide. I think the current shortage of used vans is a good excuse for the dealers to try and offload their rubbish at silly prices. We have seen some elderly vans in such poor condition that they should not be on the forecourts of any respectable dealer but there they are with silly price tags.

We've seen some really poor caravans with spongy floors, damaged windows, etc and the dealers are wanting ridiculous prices.

We are looking private so the price guide is a great indicator, thanks very much for your responses.
