Hi all, i cant seem to get my RM4206 fridge to work on gas. I think i am doing it right. Holding dial down and then pressing ignitor but nothing. Is it possible to manually light it? It is the first time i have tried to do this but because everything else works i see no reason why this wouldnt. I just wanted to put it on overnight before we went away.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Is the ignitor clicking? it may well be the burner needs cleaning out. You may be able to do this without removing the fridge if you can acess burner by removing lower grille on outside wall of caravan.

Burner is at bottom right viewed from back. If you can reach it, clean it with a thin artist's paintbrush & plenty of meths. It would be possible to light burner from this position if ignitor is inoperative.

Make sure your 12v and 240v switches are off. I tried to light mine for 20 mins the other day and noticed the 12v switch was still on. Turned it off and it caught first click.

I think mines a 4206, I will check this evening, and you need the 12V to light it, its an electronic igniter.

to light mine, you turn the gas dial to max, then holt in a butotn to the left of the dial, and switch on the ignitor, it clicks away merrily until its lit then stops, there is a viewing window on the inside of the fridge.

check the gas valve for the fridge (usually in a cuboard next to it) is open, and give it a while to light, it takes ages for the gas to get through.
First time I lit mine it took nearly 3 mins, it kept "popping" for a while, then its been fine

Make sure the 'van is level - they are very temperamental if the van isn't level. And as Tim says, give it plenty of time for the gas to come through.

Hi press the knob in that allows gas into the fridge--HOLD IT IN--press the ignighter twice quickly keeping the gas knob in, wait a few seconds and it should be lit. if not prime the gas---light the cooker to get gas running through-- then try the fridge, works for us everythime. gary

copy that folks, never used fridge on gas as always on ehu but might use it to keep ale cool at the touring cars in august.

alan126-- have a go- if not revert to a bucket of water, ale in, put in shade. works for us as an overflow fridge for pop, beer and wine. have a good time. cheers gary

what i have done if i was going to be off mains is use a few freezer blocks in fridge as i rarely run it on 12v on the road

Yes, once it's lit on gas it works from the thermostat - beware, my dog often has frozen dog food for breakfast if I turn it up too high!

My problem is re-lighting it after the gas has run out and I've changed the bottle over it just won't relight. Any thoughts or advice?

Wait for the thermo-coupler to go completely cold. Light the cooker rings, wait until the flames are nice and steady... then try lighting the fridge.

Obviously the gas isn't coming through to that point. does it have a shut off tap that needs turning back on?

Let the thermocouple cool down, prime the gas by lighting the hob, press the gas valve button down and hold down for 10 seconds, then press the igniter, it should light with a whoosh. If it doesn't hold it down for another 10 seconds and the press the igniter againas soon as there is enough gas there it will light.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Jax and Janus have the answer.
In the day we had horrible probs with our fridge but as soon as we used a cooker ring AT THE SAME TIME our probs were over.
The ring pulls the gas into the system.
On its own, especially after the gas has run out, it uses such a small amount of gas it takes forever to get to the source.

That really depends on how warm it is outside and how cold you want your beers. Many times I have turned ours up to high (or is that too low?) and had a cider ice lolly.
