Bought a Fiamma privacy room to go with our new Bailey. Looked forward to testing it on recent trip to France. When I unpacked it despite the picture on the box all there was were the 2 sides and a front. When we got back I checked with the dealer where I bought it (a Bailey dealer at that) and they ordered up the missing bit. In the meantime I read in the caravan club magazine that using one of these may invalidate the warrantee so when the dealer rang to say the bits had arrived I asked them to check with Bailey about the warrantee. Several days later I get an answerphone message saying Bailey say using this awning will invalidate the warrantee.

I'm furious with the dealer because I explained which caravan I had when we bought the awning and their salesman even went ouside and measured the caravan to check what size awning to get.

Shouldn't the dealer have already known Bailey's policy on these things? YOu expect the dealer to guide you not sell kit you can't use for the above reasons. I am so pleased I didn't buy the caravan from them!

Furious & hacked off

Why does it invalidate the warrany? Is it the keeping of the main part of the awning permanently on the awning rail?

I would have thought the stress when up and the wind blowing much higher than when rolled up and on the move.

I agree you'd think it would be under more stress when any awning is erected. Bailey don't like things left in the awning channel it seems. That means I can't use my 10Kg PDQ awning either.

Now I have to pursuade the dealer to take back the 2 sides and a front I have which are no good to me for a Privacy room. Spent 10 days in France without an awning its been nothing but hassle. Good job the Sancerre is a big van so we managed.

As you can imagine I'm not happy with Bailey OR the dealer.

I also saw that in the CC magazine and it did make me wonder whether the people that write that part live in the real world. How would a manufacturer know that you used a Caravanstore type awning, assuming you always remove it before it goes for service! I used one for 5 years on my Eccles Topaz, which I have just traded in, and I can't see that it has caused any problems. I fully intend to buy another for my new van.

I've just managed to pursuade the dealer to take it back and give me a full refund.

The Fiamma is designed to be left in the awning rail which Bailey believe keeps the awning channel under constant stress which they feel will weaken it over time and although they'd probably never know if you took it off before sending the van to the dealer for a service, I don't want to give them chance to welch on the warrentee.

Its really the sunshade bit we want but I think I have devised a way of making one using some awning skirt and plastic treated material, together with the legs from my PDQ.

We know quite a few people with Bailey caravans and some of them have these type of awnings. It might be worth ringing Bailey yourself and asking them directly also ask them the reason why if this is the case.

I fully believe the dealer after all as a result of Bailey's decision they're out the sale of 1 awning and have to refund me for the privacy room which is now no good to me.

Dealer did say that they'd spoken to Fiamma who were miffed and evidently are going to speak to other manufacturers so acertain whether they too would invalidate warrenty if this product is used.

I might email the Bailey owners club and see if they can reason with Bailey because to me as TonyC52 mentioned a standard awning in windy weather would present more load than the privacy room sunshade bit.
