A few years ago a group of us drove several steam traction engines from Dorset to St Agnes in Cornwall. The biggest weighed 20 tons plus the two trailers, max speed 10 mph. Now that does cause tailbacks!, especially with a train length of over 60 ft.
The interesting thing was, over the 5 days it took us, we had very little agro from traffic we had held up, and there was quite a lot, most people gave us a wave and many stopped further on to take photographs, only to get stuck behind us again. One thing about towing with a steam engine, no worries about nose weight or instability.
After that experience, as long as I am keeping up with the flow of traffic and driving within the speed limit of that road, a queue behind me is of no interest to me one way or the other.
Pete.
