No Offence Stu but did you consider ringing the Police?

Government cut backs and local policing policies have pulled the boys in blue off the motorways and into the towns resulting in the introduction of HATO's, Highways Agency Traffic Officers. Ive done 460 miles today and like you not seen a single plod on any of the major routes.

There was obviously a clear danger to road users if not the potential for some serious delays.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

well no, it diddnt occur to me to ring the cops.

you see people breaking the law every 5 minutes whilst driving, eg. speeding, wrong vehicle in wrong lane etc.

and would they take any notice of someone on the move on a mobile.

i would have had to have found a layby to phone them, as the wife would'nt have a clue what i was on about.

Rover 200 have a max towing weight of 1 ton (1000kgs) i would have called the cops and insisted they did something ,

On our way back on saturday we were overtaken by some di** head towing at about 80 mph !! The caravan was wagging all over the place , the "man" driving had a woman with him and a child in the back , if my hubby were towing like that I would not be too pleased with him putting us in danger !!

If they got home in one piece it will not be due to his driving skills !!17

Imagine ringing the police!.  Trying to explain to the civvy at the other end of the line what you are on about ("a what pulling a what?") and "insisting" they get men out there to catch 'em. With a bit of luck you'll end up being done for wasting police time.

Chill out...if the 30 year old (whatever his age has to do with it?) makes a mess of his rig then his problem. There are far too many people sticking their noses into other peoples business.

Have to agree with Stu,if we rang the police would they do anything,i passed some people walking on the hard shoulder of the M5 with two dogs loose running around like they were in a park,so i pulled into Sedgemoor Services and told patrol cops who were sat in a portacabin they said thanks and would deal with it.I had a 20min break and when i left they still had not moved, yes it was late at night but can you imagine what would have happend if the dogs ran onto the traffic lanes.

Sounds like you condone idiots like this on our highways  ?

And as for people sticking there noses into other peoples business would you still say the same if your house was ransacked and your neighbour witnessed it but did nothing ?

If an Idiot pulls a huge caravan with a tiny car on the public highway and the outfit is illegal they are putting other road users in danger . Would they be able to do an Emergency stop with a huge heavy twin axle caravan pushing a Rover 200 ? No . They need prosecuted

I dont spend my time when out driving looking out for illegal rigs. I spend my time looking where I am going....I make sure I'm legal and dont cause any accidents.

What has common burgalry to do with caravanning?, bizarre!

There are always some who, through either ignorance or lack of sense and decency, will flout the law.

OH and I have often said "Well, if I were a Copper, I do that one!" and not just over towing issues.

I rather doubt the Police would actually do anything on the say of a regular Joe ringing. It's a shame, and rather sad, but we just get out of the way of the idiots and hope any accident they cause doesn't too much carnage. But yes they should be prosecuted, dangerous driving is just that - dangerous!

Ignorance or naivity isn't the same as innocence. But prosecution could be a little harsh. Maybe, just maybe, he just didn't have a clue that he was breaking the law? And yes, maybe you should have phoned the police. He was clearly causing a danger to both himself and other road users. However, a talking to from plod, or the highway patrol, and an escort to the closest place he could park up his van safety could also have been a satisfactory outcome.
