Thirty years ago I was returning from a holiday with our tourer with my parents up the A34 near Weston on the Green, Oxford. Behind us were our friends (my 'Uncle Frank & Aunty Muriel' as I had always called them) towing their 2 berth Ace with a Ford Capri.
Approaching a Little Chef on the right hand side of the road my dad overtook an old Rover that was parked by the side of the road. Unfortunately our friends behind were busy looking at the gliders in the sky and noticed the Rover too late - result he swerved, car missed Rover but caravan did not and wrenched it off sending it across the A34 and into a Triumph Herald leaving the Little Chef car park!. Ensuing obvious pandamonium, fortunately no injuries anywhere but a disintegrated Ace.
Reason for my relating this is my 'Uncle Frank' later related that that at the moment of impact he did not realise the caravan had gone and only realised a few moments later when his wife calmly turned to him and said:
'Frank dear...... you appear to have lost the caravan.......'
