Even with the second white/grey socket on the electrics, the wiring for the fridge and charger may not be present. To check if this is the case, one simple test is to connect the leads to the car, switch on the intenal caravan lights and then start the engine. The internal lights should go off within a few seconds. If this doesn't happen, your fridge may not be getting a 12v feed.
With the newer 13 pin sockets now fitted to some new cars, the wirng for the fridge is often omitted. This is due to the cable available in the UK having insufficient cores (believe it or not). This is not always easy to rectify as the pins within the socket are sometimes not present. The socket can be changed but check that the original has a micro switch fitted - for operation of by-pass relays an mitigation of reversing sensors etc.
In any case, your local caravan dealer or auto elec can check your car electrics in no time at all.
