i bought a used 2002 lunar astara 524 but there are no safety bars for the top fold out bunk, which converts from the side dinette. The metal clips are there on the edge of the bunk, but no bars. My eight year old daughter is adamant that the top bunk is hers but i am really worried that she will fall out at some point (happens at home sometimes!).

has anyone any ideas on what i could use, or where i could get replacement bars.

best regards,

simon.

We made our own solid bars for the top bunk as they were missing when we purchased our caravan.  We used brackets number 11423 available from screwfix which are really cheap and two curved style (no sharp edges) contiboard shelves from Homebase.  The colour of the shelves even matched the woodwork colour of our caravan.  Fix the brackets onto the shelves and slot into brackets on the fold our bunk.  We made sure the shelves were long enough to hold a child in place but short enough for the ladder to fit into at the middle section.  This has stopped our 5 five year old falling out at night and she is a real fidget.

Hope this helps, regards Janette

We have one of these that we used to fit in our van as DD was always falling out , even of the bottom one. Folds up small and comes in a carry bag.

We use the same, cheaper than the ebay one if you include postage at Argos   though, paid about £21.

thanks for taking the time to respond to this post and for all the advice.

i have looked at the types that slot under the bed but due to the raised edge of the bunk they wont fit.

Janette. that sounds a great idea- the clips from screwfix are the same as what is fitted. Off to get some light shelves and brackets.

thank you.

my 8 year old says thanks as well.

been and got a laminated shelf with rounded edges from B&Q for a tenner, and the beech colour looks just the same as the caravan woodwork.

problem solved.
