Yeah you can stay in services for a fee. We stay at Michael Woods on th M5 it is quite good and hundreds of caravans stay overnight. it is near Bristol.

Think its around £15 or £17.5 with a £5 meal voucher but the meals are expensive as are all services. We have stayed there twice without problems we travel down to Somerset through night from North West Cumbria then get up and go right to the campsite in the morning!!

Hi Sharon, you should try to get past Bristol if possible before stopping, there is a nice site just off junc 25 at Thornfalcon,we stayed in 2006 and it was only £10.50 a night with e.h.u.It is called Ashe farm listed under Taunton on the campsite search, there are several reviews including mine.It will make the journey much easier the next day,I am also from Merseyside and have used this site twice, best of luck.
You'll be fine in any of the service areas on the M5, they all tend to get very busy with caravan stopovers. I've never tried it myself but my OH used to work in Michaelwood & they're used to caravan sleepovers. You might find this handy.
As we live close to J14, we run straight down to Cornwall from here in one hit thankfully.
If you can do it, you're well advised by Ken in the above reply to try & get south of the Avon bridge J19 of the M5, before parking up for the night. You'll be south of the M4/M5 bottlekneck then.
Either way, rest assured you'll be fine in any of the M5 service areas.
