We had problems with them with our dogs pet insurance. They are renowned for using every trick in the book to avoid paying out for perfectly legitimate claims. E&L even put the phone down on me during one phone call. If you are having problems just stick with it.
I found a template for a letter to the Financial Services Ombudsman on Martins Money Tips website and adjusted it to suit our case. I then sent a copy to E&L with a covering letter telling them that I would be sending it to the Ombudsman together with all the documentation proving my claim if the matter wasnt resolved within 7 days. This did the trick and they paid up.
We have used E & L for a number of years, had the unfortunate case of storm damage last year, E & L paid up very promptly and had no problems at all...
I have seen warnings in local tack shops telling people about cases locally where they failed to pay up. People are tempted because they are cheap and one insurance company looks like any other.
I'm in the industry and personally wouldn't ever use them. The dog is with More Than and I am about to put a claim in, and the van is now with Caravanguard.
If it's any help, I have my dog insured with Pet Plan on their amnisty scheme, no catches, they pay out for the same problem throughout the life of your pet, and no hiking the prices up. Been with them for years and never had a claim questioned.....
The caravan is with onequote on line....again brilliant, no problems...:)
Many thanks for all replys. If you are interested in E&L insurance make sure you check the small print. They kept my credit card number, without my permission, and used it to renew insurance the next year, again without my permission. I am trying to get a refund from them!!!!!!!!
I expect that is perfectly legal, it is a rolling contract and would have been detailed in the paperwork when you first took it out. IIRC some of the breakdown companies do a similar thing.
