Hi All

Have moved on from the 20 quid Argos alarm to something a little more expensive......  have become more paranoid about security since reading more posts and OH has been researching!!!!!

Has anyone used Out Smart the Thief Ltd?  We were looking into the Out Smart the Thief Caravan Defender alarm and tracker system.  OH spoke to them and they sounded very good and told him they were better than Phantom etc.  They are a relatively new company so maybe that is why I can't find any mention of them in the forum.

If anyone knows anything about them I would be grateful.  We pick up the van tomorrow and still haven't made any decisions!!!!

Hi,
I see from this and your other post (argos alarm) that you are new to caravanning but obviously trying to do the right thing by researching and asking questions.

I have never heard of the system you mention so cannot comment on it but I'm wondering if you have heard of "sold secure".
They are an independent body who do tests on different types of vehicle security including caravans and then issue gradings e.g gold, silver etc. They have their own website and might be worth a look. Sorry I don't know the exact web address but google sold secure and it will be there. Hope this helps, please don't worry to much about theft, yes it happens but not to everyone and sensible precautions are often all that is required to deter the thieves so they move on to someone else who hasn't bothered.

Robert

Thanks Robert.

I don't know if you've seen from my other post but we have decided to go for the Out Smart the thief tracker.  Well, when I say we I mean my OH.  I guess the thought of gadget man spending £19.99 on a caravan alarm when there were far more expensive exciting models on the market was a little too good to be true!!!  I'm not sure I dare look to see whether it has been graded.  Hang on a min and I'll see...... omg they are a gold tracker.  Hoorah!!!!!  Seems as though we may have picked a good one!  Thank you for the tip, makes me feel better about spending so much money.

Hi

I have used "Outsmart the thief" twice, and had outstanding service both times.

The fitter (Carl I think) fitted my Phantom Tracker and alarm (via Phantom) to our last two caravans.

Definately a guy that knows his stuff, no mess, quick and polite.

I could have sworn he was something to do with Phantom, director/owner ???

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul

Yes, it is Carl who we have been dealing with.  If I remember rightly (my OH chatted to him) then he used to work for someone else presumably it was Phantom then and developed his own system based on what he had found out from the others.  Analysing their faults and making sure that his filled in all the gaps as it were.  Am so pleased that someone else has heard of them.  Caravan Guard were sure that it was a good system but I like to hear from other people, if you know what I mean?!

OH was very impressed with what Carl had to say which was why we went with them.  Fingers crossed it all goes well.

OH says it is £650 fitted.  Ouch!  At least I have put it on my John Lewis card where I get points.  Small silver lining!!!

Found Phanthom to be fine and on the ball. The only concern I have about these alarms is that if they do go off can't the thief just disconnect the alarm and off he goes. No tracker now nothing. Is that how it works?

My Alarm and my Tracker are wired up independantly of each other. Seperate on/off switches. Seperate sighting of the control boxes. So even if a thief finds and disables the alarm, he would have to strip out half the van to find the tracker unit.
