hi all.

im off to the "seaside caravan park" near bridlington for a week on the 24th august, and the last time i was there i couldnt get a tv signal at all ( i have one of those round status aerials !! ). some of the other caravans had house type aerials attached, and some could get a signal and some couldnt.

can anyone recommend an aerial for use in a weak signal area and also a suitable mast. i dont really want to drill the van so i was looking at the GRADE multi mast with the uni brackets to attach it to the offside awning rail and also the IMAGE 420 or 430 aerial but i am unsure if these aerials would be suitable for weak signal areas.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

A decent directional aerial of the type you mention is far better than the Status thing you mention. You may need to know if your signal requires the aerial to be mounted to receive vertical or horizontal signals - just look at the surrounding ones.

I have one of each but don`t even bother with the Status - it really just needs removing, but I understand the directional Status is a different animal.

to get a signal on the status flying saucer you need for the transmitter to be in the next field lol

in scotland we are used to weaker signals and i use a 10' pole clamped to the jockey wheel with a directional aerial on top. can cope with most places. the best solution imo is to go for a satellite kit, you can get bargains in maplins of dish kit and freesat box for under £70 make a tripod using a old washing dryer (we all have one in the shed)

You can buy a sturdy tripod from Maplins for about£20 -they are disco speaker stands, just use a bungys or guyropes  and pegs to tie it down!

The Maplin Sat kit dish simply clamps to it! Simples!!!
