We are taking charge of an ABI Dalesman 520 in a couple of weeks and hope to store on our drive.  Unfortunately tho it has quite a slope.  Advice would be most appreciated from this well informed forum.  One query is how do we leave the break off when stood when it is on a slope?  It has an motor mover fitted and alko hitch.  Another query is what would you recommend for security fittings?

wheel chocks to stop her rolling and as for security, wheel clamp , hitch lock or how about a driveway security post they are very effective.

Use wheel chocks which you may have to attach to the ground somehow, but with a mover that should not cause any problems. A post or hitchlock post mounted into the ground in front of the drive should be easy enough to fit provided you dig deep enough so as to make it hard to break loose. Also a wheel lock which you would use on site anyway.

Wheel chocks will hold steady on a slope. A security post is a good deterent, plus if you got a version with a hitch on it you could attach your caravan to it. Then it will help hold i on the slope as well as being a security measure. Plus always fit at least one wheel clamp and a lock for the hitch. Additionally you can always fit an alarm system for added security.

We use blocks and place the van with the hitch pointing downhill to stop the van tipping backwards.  It is easy enough with the mover.  We leave the handbrake on - just as we would with the car.

thank god for movers all i can say wouldnt like to think you was man handling on that drive every time you went away and a good ad for your mover i guess showing the steepness of your drive

When we had a folding camper we tried rolling it down into the garage using the handbrake and 3 people.  We only tried it once and I used the car to reverse it after that, but it made the clutch hot judging by the smell.

why not get a security post dug well down but have a tow ball fitted/ welded on it then atatch the van to it,

doh thats already been said but its a good idea i have same fitted at home and works a treat

my father in law has a very steep drive and he leaves his mover engaged he says it gives it a bit extra grip and that way it is ready when he is taking it of the drive

The Truma motor mover that I have advises against leaving it on as this weakens the springs. It is the lever type.

Also in the instruction it advises that if you are moving your van up or down a slope, the Jockey wheel should be on the lower side of the slope. A point to note when you are thinking about where you will be parking it when it is on your sloping drive!

Leaving the mover engaged will also damage the tyre wall. Personally I always leave the hand brake on, though it wouldn't hurt to release it from time to time and use the mover to wriggle the van about a bit to keep everything free.

 Sunday Morning Idea.

Could you have removable but lockable tube and socket sunk into the drive and set in concrete,  with a tow ball welded to it.  that way the caravan would just come off of the car and onto the drive hitch, I recon that with a good hitch lock it would be pretty secure too, with a bit of thought it could be hight adjustable for any van.

By the way, you don't need to worry about adjustable height for a hitch post - They're all around the same sort of height and there's not such a difference to matter!

And use a proper wheel chock:

They are curved so the wheel fits against them which is far better for the tyre than the corner edge of a block of wood!

Great info on the security post, I,ve never seen one, it looks like a very sensible answer to theft and anchorage on a steep slope.
