We're home from our 1st holiday in our new Bailey Ranger 540/6.  We went to Scotland for 2 weeks.  Our 51 plate Ford Galaxy 1.9tdci struggled a lot so it looks like we will be searching for a newer one lol.  I towed for the 1st time and couldn't believe how easy it was, apart from the car struggling lol.

As it was only dh, i and the dogs sleeping in their we didn't bother taking the awning with us.  The kids stayed with my Mum and Dad in their hired Static.  Me, dh, ds and dogs left home at 2.05am and reached Blair Castle Caravan Site at 2.05pm.  Setting up didn't take long and we tried out a hardstanding serviced pitch for the 1st time, definetly will be using one of those as often as possible.

The Bailey was lovely but the bed never laid flat so we slept on this huge lumpy bumpy bed for 14 nights.  Will be investing in some kind of mattress topper very soon.  Dh motor moved the 'van onto the exact spot where we wanted it to go.  We then put the steadie's down only to remmber that we needed to put the wheel lock on so up came the steadies so that we could move the hole in the wheel to lock it lol.

When the kids decided to stay with us I tried out the single side bed in the bunk room but the cushion's don't fit unless they are forced into place leaving them out of shape in the morning.  Also one of the catches on the blind broke, there are a couple of pin holes in the fly screen on the heiki roof light which i need to inform the dealer of.  It's a shame about there being no heating in the kids room and i can't work out why there is one in the bathroom?  Might get the dealer to move it when it's in there next.  Will have to get some kind of light for the bathroom as dd can't reach the light switches anywhere.  Apart from those slight problems the 'van is a dream and we had many admiring looks as people passed us and the mover certainly impressed a lot more lol.

I knew we had made a great choice and 2 weeks away in her strongly reinforced that lol

You will appreciate the heater in the bathroom if you go away in the winter!

Yep we turned them all over and even tried them out with the knee roll somewhere else but they were still sticking up or down too far.  I hoped that with sleeping on them they would get better but after 14 nights they were still the same.  On our old Avondale they just laid flat but they were just 4 long pieces whereas with the Bailey as it's a longer sofa its in 8 pieces.  Might be worth still mentioning it to the Dealer but just think it's one of those things, i know i've read of other 'van owner's with the same problem lol.

We only use it for the loo so to me it seems wasted in there when it would be much better in the bedroom.

We turn the cushions so that the roll pieces are at our heads and feet and the smaller ones that are the back cushions are then in the middle part of the bed.We also put a sleeping bag over then this seams to be warmer and takes out the bumps. hope this helps.

We put the knee rolls at feet and head and the two back cushion's in the middle but it was still lumpy.  That's why we thought of a quilt but i'm not sure that that will really be enough so will invest in something a bit thicker and at least with all the bunks we have somewhere to store it lol.

Thats just one of the advantages of having a fixed bed - you are sleeping on a normal mattress so nice and comfy!

Our front dinette has flat cushions too so that bed doesn't have lumpy bits either, but I know the GT60's do have lumpy bits on the seats but all you need to do is turn the cushions so that the lumps are where youre head and feet will be and the rest is flat.

In our ranger 510/4, I put the two big cushions lengthways for the bed with the backrests at the foot. This gives us bumps at each side but the bit we lie on is nice and flat.
