Some caravans do not have them so the makers think not.
I as someone who has worked with the design of water systems for similar applications am very much against them in caravans. This is because they are not in constant use and when left dormant many provide an excellent medium on which bacteria, slimes, fungi etc grow.

Am I right inthinking that the caravans with an 'on-board' water pump have a water filter anyway. Most (if not all) of the new Bailey vans have the water pump inside the van (this is the case for Pageant and Senator - not sure about Ranger). On our old caravan our whale water pump used to fit directly into the aquaroll. The unit that fits into the aquaroll on our present van, I think is a filter of some sort. My wife still calls it the water pump, and I have to keep correcting her - that goes down well!! I'd hate to have to admit I'm wrong!!!
water filters are a waste of time and money and can create problems.all the little black bits came out of mine and blocked all the taps,i have now removed filter and flushed everything out and now also my water pressure is 5x better.
We have an on board pump, the bit that goes in the Aquaroll is just a strainer type filter to stop it sucking up any debris from the Aquaroll. The pump itself also has a strainer mesh on the inlet side.
