Hi, tried camping twice and loved it, only thing we didn't like though was the setting up and putting away ( very tiring )
So we've decided to get a caravan. We are thinking of getting a mondeo 2.0 tdci 130 for our towing car. Has anyone else the same car and how do they find for towing?
Looking to get a 4 berth caravan pref with end bathroom
We have 8k budget, so can get a decent caravan for appox £4,500 ?
You should have no trouble in theory, Mondeo will be an excellent tow car. However, you might struggle to find a decent caravan for £4500 simply because so many other people are also looking. This particular price bracket seems to be in very short supply. hopefully there will be more as the season draws to a close.
But if you find one, and assuming its not got damp or other problems, you will be very happy with it. Just be aware that there are a lot of crooks out there.
We used to camp and like you got so fed up with the setting up etc we didn;t bother going away much. The caravan will extend your season alot. The central heating, shower & toilet etc makes it as cosy as being at home.

I tow a 1450kg Hymer Nova caravan with my 55 plate Mondeo TDCi 115 5speed and it is a fabulous tow car. It is economical, extremely stable and has more than enough power and torque to pull the caravan anywhere. In fact it is the best towcar I have had in 17 years.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
I agree with Nawar. It is fairly difficult to get a good used van at the moment. Dealers are especially short, so I have been told. Best of luck though!
yes best to buy at end of season normally cheaper and not in so much demand.with the tow car be careful not to burn thr clutch most modern diesels have a dual mass flywheel that are very weak.and are expesive to replace.best to have motor mover fitted to caravan to do any uphill reversing
------------- dogs in boot caravan on back off we go
i think you should get a decent van for that money, there are lots on ebay well within this money.just because vans are less than this amount doesn't mean they are no good.I wish i had 41/2 grand to spend on a van,i know i could get a spot on one
Please ,please invest in a damp meter & learn how to use it before buying a van preferably a sonic type which does not need to penetrate the wallboard, but even a cheap one from B&Q or ALDI can save you hundreds of pound & loads of heart ach
It is a great thing to move to a caravan. I wish I had done it a long time ago. I will say though that I don't think it is much quicker to set up a caravan than a tent, but its a lot easier. (or maybe its just me).
I like it perfectly level and everthing in its rightfull place (awning setup with goerge forman, satelite setup, etc)
Anyway hope you have fun what ever you do
Cheers
Richard
