As a regular winter caravanner, I was pleased to receive the latest CC magazine along with its supplement entitled 'Autumn and Winter Touring'.
On page 6 of the document under the section 'Successful winter caravaning', I was drawn to the advice on heating.
The advice says, 'for safety, do not use gas heaters all night, even with a good flue'.
I understand why this advice is issued, as it is probably to prevent occupants from being overcome by carbon monoxide from a faulty heater whilst asleep at night.
This then got me thinking about the other gas appliances such as the fridge and water heater.Should this advice not equally apply to these.
In addition I quite often nod off in the afternoon whilst the gas heating is on, or put it on in the early hours to warm up the van and go back to sleep for a couple of hours.
I have also spoken to my caravan service dept, who state the heating and other appliances are designed to run 24/7.
To be on the safe side, I have decided to purchase a Carbon monoxide alarm as I think this would be better in the event of a leak.
Does anyone follow the CC advice, do you think it is appropriate to a modern well serviced van?.
Also has anyone fitted a CO alarm, if so, where is the best place for it to be positioned?.
