We're back from our first ever caravan trip and we're hooked! Shame we ghad to take the kids mind you....lol.
So now we know what we need and what we don't....we had some concerns with our awning and decided to get some storm straps.
The ones specifically for our awning are almost £20, whereas I notice that universal ones are cheaper. We're n a tight budget and I am worried about buying a cheaper version if they're not as good, and then end up buying the dearer ones anyway...
What do you think folks? We very much value your opinions!
We have an universal one, and it works fine and have used it for years, there is no rubbing we put the strap on every time we have the awnings up, we use the same strap for both the full and combi awning. We had to replace the stakes, but that was after a trip to glencoe, other than that no problems.

whats wront with decent guy ropes? most awnings dont seem to use them, mine stays up without, but i usually use guys, I have only twice needed a strap across the top, and I have put that more accross the middle to stop it balooning up as much.
What do you mean by universal, unless that refers to the strap that simply "goes over the top"?
We have fitted buckles on both our awnings, which allow two straps (one at each corner) to be secured to them. However, we found that the makes of these buckles vary slightly in design so, as we only have one set of straps, we have to change that part of the buckle which goes onto the strap, depending on which awning we are using.
Is your awning new? We've got a new awning and it says that we have to use their storm straps as a universal or other kind will invalidate the warrenty.
The universal type that go right over the awning come with a warning that they should only be used when its windy as they might chafe & damage the awning if left on all the time.
Having said that, I leave mine on all the time without problem. I would say tho these are the best type as they will hold the whole awning front down.
