We have a Carver Caravelle 4 heater in our new van - we plugged everything in and switched it on and the heat comes nicely out but I have a question (never used a blow heater before) - should it actually blow out of the vents ie with a fan? Probably a daft question but I have never even seen one of these things work.

Fans are normally fitted on the back of the heater , when you switch the fan on it draws heat through the fan and feeds it via trunking to the vents , make sure the vent flap is open for the heat to come out .

The Carver SBE1800 Caravelle is a very good gas fire,it uses two possible methods of blown air.
The first is obvious as it has a long 'barrel' fan in the front at the base of the fire, it has switch at the side to select fast or slow fan speeds
The other more traditional method is a 'Trumavent' 12v fan fitted to the back of the fire, this distributes hot air around the van to several outlets
You should have a matchbox sized control switch with a dial and a red three position switch.
For heating you should set the switch to 'A' for automatic and select a maximum speed on the dial, the heat from the fire will then control the actual speed, up to the set maximum.
You can use the other switch position for cooling in summer, this position simply sets the fan speed at a constant speed
The principle of blown air is simple, it stops 'layering of the air so the whole van is the same temperature, That's rather than hot near the roof and cold at your feet
Thanks for the quick replys - I couldnt find a switch for the fan today but will have another look again tomorrow - there just seems to be a switch on the wall with a dial numbered up to 6.

The Carvavelle's switch is light brown, numbered 1 to 9 I think and has the green LED and on/off switch.
The Trumavent's control is half the size,(about 2 inch by 1.5 inch)and black or very dark brown, the dial is probably numbered 1 to 6 and the switch itself is red
After much searching we found the fan switch inside the wardrobe - hubby had thought it worked some light or other! Anyhoo - its working nicely now. Thanks again.
